Date A Live IV Anime Premieres in October With New Studio and Staff

    The second day of “Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2021” revealed that the Date A Live IV will premiere in October 2021. The event also revealed the show’s returning cast and new staff and studio.

    Kadokawa had announced a new anime in the Date A Live franchise in September 2019 and revealed the fourth season of the anime in March 2020.

    Tachibana launched the Date A Live light novel series in March 2011 with illustrations by Tsunako. Kadokawa published the 22nd and final volume of the novels in Japanese, in March 2020. The light novels have 6 million copies in print worldwide. Yen Press is releasing the novels in English.

    The light novels have inspired several manga, video games, and spinoff novels. Compile Heart released the Date A Live: Ren Dystopia game on September 24,2020 for the PlayStation 4 after a delay.


    The Date A Live Fragment: Date A Bullet spinoff novels, by Yuichiro Higashide, inspired a two part theatrical anime adaptation.

    The first film, Date A Bullet: Dead or Bullet, opened in Japan on August 14, 2020. Date A Bullet: Nightmare or Queen, the second film of the series, debuted on November 13, 2020.

    The first season of the Date A Live anime premiered in 2013 and ran for 12 episodes. The second season of the anime premiered a year later and ran for 10 episodes. The third season of the series premiered in January 2019 and aired for 12 episodes. 

    Funimation streamed the first and second seasons of Date A Live as they aired in Japan. Crunchyroll streamed the third season as it aired in Japan, and Funimation offered to produce a simuldub.


    Funimation also released the first season of the anime on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in June 2014 with an English dub and released the second season on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in March 2016. The Gekijōban Date A Live: Mayuri Judgment movie opened in Japan in August 2015.

    Okay, now that we have the very extensive history of the Date A Live franchise, let’s talk about the returning cast and the new crew shall we?

    The cast members who are returning for Date A Live IV include:

    Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shido Itsuka, Marina Inoue as Tohka Yatogami, Misuzu Togashi as Origami Tobiichi, Ayana Taketatsu as Kotori Itsuka, Iori Nomizu as Yoshino, Asami Sanada as Kurumi Tokisaki, Maaya Uchida as Kaguya Yamai, Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Yuzuru Yamai, Minori Chihara as Miku Izayoi and Ayumi Mano as Natsumi

    Jun Nakagawa, who directed Date A Bullet, and the Date A Live anime series, is directing the anime at Geek Toys. Fumihiko Shimo is overseeing the series scripts and Naoto Nakamura is designing the characters. Go Sakabe is returning from the previous three anime to compose the music.
