The official website and Twitter account for the Pretty Boy Detective Club anime began streaming its first promotional video today.
The promo video revealed the five main characters of the series. The video also announced that the anime will air on the “ANiMAZiNG!!!” late-night anime block on ABC TV, TV Asahi, and their network of affiliates throughout Japan at 2:00 AM on April 10th. So, technically it’ll premiere at 2:00 am on April 11th.
The story revolves around Mayumi Dojima, a second-year student at the exclusive Yubiwa Academy middle school. She lost something and needs help finding it. Luckily she has the help of the Pretty Boy Detective Club!
(Spoiler alert: the thing that Mayumi lost is a star that she literally got a single glimpse of ten years ago)
The club is rumored to be mysterious and secretive, the boys are gorgeous, and it looks like we’re going to get a reverse harem anime with some mystery and danger. We love to see it!
Then in October 2018, the Bishōnen Tanteidan manga moved to Shonen Magazine Edge. The manga’s “first part” ended in July 2019, and the fifth compiled book volume shipped in September 2019.
Since then, Vertical licensed the novels and released the first volume on September 29, 2020. Vertical also licensed the manga, and it will release the manga in two-in-one omnibus editions this summer.
The cast for Pretty Boy Detective Club includes Ayumu Murase who is playing Manabu Sо̄tо̄in, Taito Ban who is playing Nagahiro Sakaguchi, Toshiki Masuda who is playing Michiru Fukuroi, Shougo Yano who is playing Hyо̄ta Ashikaga, and Gen Sato who is playing Sо̄saku Yubiwa.
The studio SHAFT is producing the animation and presenting the project with Kodansha and Aniplex. Akiyuki Simbo is the supervising director for the anime, which makes sense because Simbo also directed anime like Madoka Magica and March Comes in Like a Lion. Additionally, Hiroki Yamamura is adapting Kinako’s character designs for animation.
Sadly, there isn’t any information on whether Pretty Boy Detective Club will be available on Crunchyroll or Funimation as of yet. However, we will continue coverage on this series and as soon as we know, you guys will definitely know!
