The official website for the Osomatsu-san anime announced on Monday that there will be a three episode Valentine’s Day themed short series titled Chocomatsu-san Valentine’s Day-hen.
If this is your first time hearing about the absolute masterpiece that is Osomatsu-san, you’re in for a treat.
The anime is based on the Osomatsu-kun manga and anime by Fujio Akatsuka. The anime follows the lives of six mischievous sextuplets who are all in love with the same girl. Hijinks and hilarity ensue, and everyone has a fun time. In Osomatsu-kun the sextuplets are all 10 years old and have a fair amount of growing up to do.
In Osomatsu-san, however, the sextuplets are 26 years old and to be honest, they haven’t changed. The sextuplets are still in love with the same girl that they liked when they were ten, they’re still childish and mischievous and everyone still has a fun time.
Osomatsu-san is currently on its third season which premiered in October 2020. Crunchyroll is streaming the season as it airs in Japan. The first season of Osomatsu san came out in October 2015 and the second season came out in October 2017. There is also a movie and various videos about the Matsuno sextuplets’ escapades.
Eiji Abiko, an animation director on the first season, is replacing Naoyuki Asano as the character designer. The director Yōichi Fujita and series script supervisor and writer Shū Matsubara are returning to work on the shorts at Studio Pierrot. The other cast members are returning to work on the shorts, besides the sextuplets’ voice actors.
The Valentines Day shorts will debut on Docomo’s dTV service on February 13th, 14th, and 15th. The shorts will also have counterpart shorts in March titled Chocomatsu-san White Day-hen.
