So, the new Gintama film, Gintama: The Final has earned over one billion yen (approx. 9.6 million US dollars) at the box office after being in the theaters for 16 days. This is the fastest that a film in the Gintama franchise has ever reached this milestone.
Impressed? Well, there’s more.
Gintama: The Final came out in Japan on January 8 and ranked at #1 in its opening weekend. This officially ends Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train’s streak of 12 consecutive weekends at the top of the Japanese box office.
So, ha! Take that Tanjiro!
Additionally, Japan released a version of the film with commentary from the cast three days ago. Moviegoers can listen to the commentary on a second audio channel by downloading it from an app and listening to it from their phones.
The voice actors that provided commentary are: Tomokazu Sugita, who plays Gintoki Sakata, Daisuke Sakaguchi, who plays Shimura Shinpachi, Rie Kugimiya who plays Kagura, Susumu Chiba who plays Isao Kondō, Kazuya Nakai who plays Tōshirō Hijikata, and Kenichi Suzumura who plays Sōgō Okita.
