The official Twitter account for Magazine Pocket announced on Saturday that the manga Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie (Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san), by Keigo Maki is getting an anime adaptation.
This announcement is brand new so there isn’t much information on the project out yet but there will be more details in the future.
According to a post from Mantan web, Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san was born from a Twitter post that got over 3 million likes. Then in February 2019, Maki launched the manga on Magazine Pocket and now in 2021, we’re hearing that it’s getting an anime. What a time to be alive!
The manga follows the life of Shikimori, who seems like the perfect girlfriend. She’s cute, sweet, fun to be around, and it turns out she also has a cool secret dark side to her personality. (Gasp! A multidimensional shoujo protagonist! What a shock!) Her boyfriend Izumi loves to witness this secret side of her and romantic shenanigans ensue.
To celebrate the news of the anime adaptation, Magazine Pocket is offering the first manga volume for free on their official website. Magazine Pocket’s version of the manga is written in Japanese, but Kodansha Comics published an English version of the manga as well. Kodansha Comics released the sixth volume of Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san in October 2020. The seventh volume of the manga will be published on January 8, 2021.
Magazine Pocket is also offering one autographed art piece and five autographed t-shirts to people who post on Twitter with the hashtag “#式守さんアニメ化” (#ShikimoriAnimeAdaptation) in order to celebrate the anime adaptaion.
Maki thanked the staff at Magazine Pocket for the anime adaptation and said that they were “looking forward to seeing what kind of work it will be!” To be honest Maki, we are too.
