The staff of the EX-ARM anime revealed on Monday in the second 2021 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, that the anime will premiere on January 10, 2021. Even though the EX-ARM anime is coming out in a month, the original announcement for the anime adaptation was released in 2018, via Komi’s Twitter account.
The official trailer for EX-ARM was released in 2019 via Youtube. The anime was supposed to be released in July, but the release was delayed to “fall 2020 or later,” due to COVID.
EX-ARM is an action anime based on the manga by Shinya Komi and HiRock. The story is about a high school student named Akira Natsume. Akira gets involved in a traffic accident, and only his brain is saved. Then, with the power of anime science and logic, Akira’s brain becomes part of an advanced weapon. Now Akira has to work with the police’s EX-ARM countermeasure division to regain his lost memories and his body.
The main cast includes Soma Saito as Akira, Mikako Komatsu as Minami Uezono, and Akari Kito as Arma. Additionally, Yoshikatsu Kimura is directing the anime. Tommy Morton is overseeing the series scripts, and Sō Kimura is composing the music. Osaka’s “pop-punk band” Airflip is performing the theme song “Rise Again”, which is playing in the trailer.
Based on the negative attention that the Ex-Arm trailer received back in 2019, it’s safe to say that the anime probably won’t stand out in the Winter 2021 lineup. But if you’re interested or curious in seeing Ex-Arm for yourself, it will broadcast on Tokyo MX and Sun TV channels on January 10, and on BS Fuji on January 12. Crunchyroll will also be streaming Ex-Arm online as a “Crunchyroll Original Series.”
