The official Twitter account for the By the Grace of the Gods anime streamed a mini anime short on Friday. The short depicts By the Grace of the Gods‘ characters Ryoma, Elaria, and Miya as slimes meeting the slime Rimuru, the protagonist of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
If you’re like me and have never heard of By the Grace of the Gods, here’s some information about the series.
By the Grace of the Gods is based on the corresponding light novel by Roy and Ririnra. The story is an isekai (because we definitely needed another one of those) that centers around a middle-aged Japanese businessman named Ryoma Takebayashi who died very suddenly. Since Ryoma never had a particularly good life, after his death three great gods sought his cooperation and reincarnated him as a child in another world with swords and magic.
After being reincarnated, Ryoma decides to live leisurely on his own in the forest. Ryoma works hard at magic and hunting, and discovers that his greatest passion comes to be researching his tamed slimes?! So armed with youth, a blessed life given to him by the gods, and a new purpose in researching and training slimes, Ryoma has everything he needs to live a life full of adventure and friendship! If you’re interested in reading the light novel, J-Novel Club is publishing the novels digitally in English.
By the Grace of the Gods premiered in Japan on October 4, 2020, and Funimation started streaming the anime with subtitles on the same day. Funimation is also co-producing the anime. Takeyuki Yanase is directing the anime and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is the story editor and screenwriter. Kaho Deguchi is designing the characters and serving as chief animation director, and Ririnra is credited with the original character designs (as he should).
The collaboration video between By the Grace of the Gods and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is part of the Slime-tachi no Idobata Kaigi (Slimes’ Conversation) series, which features characters from By the Grace of the Gods transformed into slimes. The first short streamed on the By the Grace of the Gods official Twitter account on August 21 and there’s no information on further shorts.
